A finely carved 20th century folk art whirligig found in Micanopy, Florida, a small rural town in the central part of the state. The dealer from whom it was acquired, indicated that it came from a local estate and was mounted on a post outside the house. This whirligig shows remnants of original paint and minor checks, but overall is in very good condition. The face has a carved nose, mouth and ears. The eyes are punched in. There are twenty carved buttons on the front of the uniform and carved boots. The paddles or swords are dovetailed into the arms -- nice touch.

Measures 17 1/4” tall from the bottom of the base to the top of the hat, and 20 3/4” tall to the tip of the blade with the arm raised.

Since this photo was taken, the right arm has had the dowel tightened so that one blade is raised.
